Announcing Our New Name: ARTAIS Capital Management
After nearly 30 years of managing portfolios through bull markets, bear markets, and every kind of environment in between, I’ve seen what works on Wall Street—and what doesn’t. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that successful investing requires discipline, adaptability, and a process that adjusts as conditions change.
That belief has guided the evolution of our firm from the beginning. And it’s the reason we are proud to announce that Riverbend Investment Management is now ARTAIS Capital Management.
ARTAIS stands for Absolute Returns Through Adaptive Investment Strategies. The name reflects the investment philosophy that has shaped my work for decades and the approach our clients rely on today:
- Participate in areas of market strength when conditions are favorable
- Reduce exposure and manage risk when conditions deteriorate
- Stay grounded in a rules-based process rather than emotion or prediction
This adaptive methodology—now formally known as the ARTAIS Framework—was built from years of firsthand experience observing how traditional investment models often fall short, especially for investors approaching or in retirement. Static allocations, “stay the course” messages, and broad diversification can leave portfolios exposed when markets move sharply against expectations.
Our mission has always been to help clients protect what they’ve built while staying aligned with opportunity. The new name simply matches the work we’ve been doing all along.
Why the Name Change Matters
For many investors, especially those nearing retirement, the greatest risk isn’t short-term volatility—it’s losing time to recover from large, avoidable losses. Over the past several decades, I’ve managed portfolios through multiple major market disruptions. Those periods taught me that:
- Risk is not static
- Market leadership rotates
- Correlations rise at the worst possible time
- Recovery can take years investors do not want to lose
The ARTAIS Framework was created to address these realities. It uses momentum, relative strength, and structured risk management to help keep portfolios aligned with the present—not assumptions from the past. Our new name brings that philosophy to the forefront of everything we do.
